What is Frozen Custard?
At Freddy’s, guests are always curious about our frozen custard, and for good reason! It’s rich, creamy and made fresh in our restaurants throughout the day. We’ve taken a moment to answer some of the most common questions surrounding this sweet treat.
What’s the difference between frozen custard and ice cream?
Freddy’s frozen custard is a premium dessert that contains richer ingredients than ice cream. Our frozen custard has more eggs and a minimum of 10% butter fat. We use a special machine to slowly churn it all together, leaving less room for air to be whipped into the dessert. This creates a texture denser than that of traditional ice cream or soft serve. The result is a rich and creamy treat for everyone to enjoy!
Why do we serve frozen custard?
Two of our founders, Randy Simon and Scott Redler, both had a love for frozen custard that inspired them to bring it to Wichita, Kansas, where they opened the first Freddy’s. Randy had frequented a frozen custard shop near the Lake of the Ozarks on family vacations and fallen in love with the flavor. Scott got a taste of the delicious frozen treat in St. Louis, Missouri. Together, they brought us the rich and creamy frozen custard that we serve today!
How do we make the frozen custard?
Freddy’s frozen custard is churned fresh each morning and throughout the day in each restaurant. Our Team Members only make as much as they need, when they need it, so a fresh batch is always waiting for you!
